There is something special about August in Cambridge-Isanti Schools. While our schools have remained active all summer with community education programs, summer learning, facility projects, and countless other activities, August marks the transition to a new school year. Student-athletes are back on the fields and courts, activities are ramping up, staff are preparing for the return of students, and excitement is building for the first day of school. Across our district, this is a season of optimism, preparation, and fresh beginnings.

Behind the scenes, preparations for the new school year are well underway. Custodial and maintenance teams are preparing classrooms and buildings, transportation staff are finalizing bus routes, nutrition services are getting kitchens ready, technology teams are equipping classrooms, and office staff are welcoming families while helping thousands of details come together. Across the district, our employees are working together to ensure students, families, and staff are ready for a successful start when school begins next month.

Soon, our staff will gather for Workshop Week to learn, collaborate, and prepare for the year ahead. As we do, we are reminded of the important partnership we share with our families and community. Through surveys and conversations, we continue to hear how much families value the teachers, principals, and staff who support students each day. We also know that strong partnerships are built through trust, communication, and follow-through. That trust is something we work to earn each day as we educate, empower, and inspire every student, every day. 

Last week, we had the opportunity to attend Night to Unite events in both Cambridge and Isanti. It was a wonderful evening filled with conversations, laughter, and neighbors connecting with one another. One conversation, however, has stayed with me.

I met a wonderful couple who shared stories about a lifetime in Cambridge. The wife attended school in one of the Cambridge Country Schools and graduated in the old high school auditorium that is now the gym at Cambridge Intermediate School. As she reflected on her school years, her face lit up while telling me about placing third in the state in a high school essay contest and traveling to the Twin Cities to be recognized for her achievement. Decades later, the pride and excitement in her voice were unmistakable. She even promised to send me a copy, which I am looking forward to reading! 

It was a powerful reminder that school is about so much more than academics. The experiences students have, the relationships they build, the opportunities they are given, and the people who believe in them leave lasting impressions that shape their lives long after graduation. Those moments become stories that are shared with children, grandchildren, and future generations.

As we prepare to welcome students back, we are excited to create those same kinds of experiences for today's learners—moments that build confidence, spark curiosity, celebrate achievement, and create memories that last a lifetime. That has been the Bluejacket tradition for generations, and it remains our privilege to carry it forward.
