Just two weeks ago, I had the privilege of walking in the Isanti Rodeo & Jubilee Days Parade alongside dozens of Bluejacket staff, students, families, volunteers, and School Board members. We handed out stickers, pencils, bracelets, and more to hundreds of children and community members, exchanged smiles and high-fives, shared quick hugs as we passed by, and did our best to keep pace with the excitement of the evening. By the end of the parade, we were all hot and tired, but our hearts were full.

What stayed with me most was the incredible sense of connection. Everywhere we looked, people were smiling, waving, cheering, and proudly wearing Bluejacket colors. In just a few blocks, we were reminded that our schools are woven into the fabric of this community. Those moments may only last a few seconds, but they remind us that our schools are built on something much bigger than classrooms. They are built on relationships.

One of the greatest gifts of public education is that everyone belongs. Whether you are a student, parent, grandparent, volunteer, lifelong learner, business partner, or simply someone who cares about the future of Cambridge-Isanti, there is a place for you in our schools.

That sense of connection doesn't end when the parade is over. In many ways, summer gives us even more opportunities to strengthen it.

Summer may look different than the school year, but our district remains as active as ever. Programs are in full swing, staff are preparing for another school year, and facility projects are underway. Learning continues, planning progresses, and so do the relationships that make our district special.

One of my favorite things about summer, however, isn't just the work—it's the pace. There is time to slow down and have conversations that aren't always possible during the busy school year. We can ask a family how their summer is going, catch up with a student about a new job or vacation, welcome someone who is new to our district, reconnect with longtime residents, or simply spend a few extra minutes listening to someone's story. Whether those conversations happen during a summer program, at a community event, or while visiting with neighbors around town, they remind me that trust is built one interaction at a time.

While those relationships continue to grow, so does the important work behind the scenes. District teams are reviewing student learning, planning professional development, preparing for the upcoming school year, and continuing priority facility improvements that reflect our commitment to responsible stewardship and long-term planning.

Schools are more than buildings. They are rooted in our relationships, and every conversation is an opportunity to strengthen them. That is the promise of public education, and it is one of the many reasons I am proud to be a Bluejacket.
