The 2026 Minnesota State High School League Track and Field Championships will be remembered as a historic weekend for Cambridge-Isanti High School.
The Cambridge-Isanti boys track and field team captured the Class AAA State Championship with 61.5 points, finishing an incredible season on top of the podium.
Senior Jackson Ziebarth delivered one of the meet's most memorable performances. Ziebarth won the Class AAA 100-meter dash in a state-record time of 10.37 seconds, breaking the previous Minnesota all-time record. He also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Shortly after his individual title, Ziebarth joined teammates Simeon Porta, Knox Andrus, and Anders Lillemo in the boys 4x100-meter relay. Together, they raced to a state championship in 41.19 seconds. Their time set another Minnesota all-time record and added a second state championship to the team's historic day.
Senior Hunter Jacobson added another title for the Bluejackets by winning the Class AAA 800-meter run in 1:51.87.
The Bluejackets also received key contributions from athletes across the lineup. Calvin Piescher placed second in the pole vault, clearing 16 feet, and added a sixth-place finish in the long jump. Wesley Kennedy earned fifth place in the pole vault with a vault of 14 feet, 6 inches. Every point mattered in the team’s pursuit of state championship.
"This is not about one or two people, this is about all of us in this together," said Head Coach Kent Viesselman. "We believe track is a team sport in Cambridge-Isanti and that's why this is so fun."
Cambridge-Isanti's success extended beyond the boys team championship. On the girls side, freshman Annabelle O'Brien earned a sixth-place finish in the pole vault, while senior Aubrey Wilson placed eighth in the same event. Lilly Gravem competed among the state's best in the triple jump, continuing a strong season for the Bluejacket girls track and field team.
The Bluejackets were also represented at the state meet by freshman Kaiden Alcock in the boys high jump and senior Deven Olson in the boys discus. Qualifying for the state meet reflects months of hard work, determination, and perseverance.
The success of this team was built through the efforts of athletes, coaches, families, and supporters working toward a common goal. From state champions and record breakers to first-time state qualifiers, the Bluejackets demonstrated the teamwork, commitment, and pride that define Cambridge-Isanti athletics.
"I'm super proud of them, most importantly because of the people they are," said Viesselman.
Congratulations to all of our state qualifiers, medalists, champions, coaches, families, and Bluejacket community on an extraordinary season.
