  • Chris Kampa is the Director of Finance and Operations of Cambridge-Isanti Schools. The District serves approximately 5,000 students in grades pre-K-12 with nine schools: two primary schools, two intermediate schools, two middle schools, one high school, a year-round elementary, and a multi-age special programs campus, in addition to the community education program.

As the District’s Director of Finance and Operations, he is responsible for leading finance and operations, including long-term financial planning, accounting, annual budgeting, food service, buildings and grounds, risk management, and transportation.

Chris is a life-long Bluejacket. He grew up in Cambridge-Isanti schools attending from kindergarten through graduation. Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Gustavus Adolphus College and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of St. Thomas. In 2018, Chris became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), one of the highest distinctions in the investment management profession.

Before joining C-I Schools leadership team, Chris lived and worked in the Twin Cities for 10 years in the investment banking and asset management field. He held several leadership positions, including senior portfolio manager at Magni Asset Management, director at Stifel Financial Corporation, and finance manager at Hennepin County. He came home to Cambridge-Isanti with his wife to raise his family in 2012. He became the Director of Finance of Cambridge-Isanti Schools in 2019 after seeing the District cut $4.5 million from its budget in one year. Knowing the District faced significant budget challenges, he felt his expertise could be part of the solution.

As a fiscal conservative, Chris is committed to serving as a responsible steward of taxpayer funds. He has created a long-term financial strategy and is focused on bringing stability and transparency to the budgeting process and district finances.

“For my wife and I, this is our hometown; this is where our families and friends are. This is where we want to raise our children. What makes Cambridge-Isanti special is the sense of community; people really look out for and care about each other. And that's a good thing. There is a sense of shared values.”
