The Power of Gratitude

As we move through November, conversations about gratitude seem to come more naturally. The season invites us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the many people and moments that shape our lives. It’s a beautiful time to give thanks—but gratitude, when practiced year-round, is what truly sustains us. In Cambridge-Isanti Schools, gratitude isn’t limited to one month of the year. It’s part of who we are and how we lead—together.

Each day, I see gratitude lived out in the actions of our staff, students, and community. Teachers greet students by name each morning. Paraprofessionals, after school staff, bus drivers, and custodians make sure every child is safe and cared for. Nutrition services staff prepare meals with warmth and pride. Principals and support teams work tirelessly to create positive, welcoming environments where every student can learn and grow. These simple daily actions, often quiet and unseen, reflect a deep sense of appreciation for one another and for the important work we share.

I’m especially grateful for the partnership of our families and community supporters who “show up” in ways big and small all year long. Families attend conferences and concerts, volunteer in classrooms, and encourage good habits at home. Local businesses and organizations host job shadows and internships, sponsor activities, and mentor students. First responders, healthcare partners, and civic groups collaborate with us on safety, wellness, and community events. Neighbors fill gyms and auditoriums to cheer on our students. Your time, resources, and encouragement lift our schools—and our kids.

Our students remind us every day why this gratitude runs so deep. Whether it’s a kindergartener learning to read, a middle school student mastering a science experiment, or a senior planning their next steps beyond graduation, each success is made possible through encouragement, support, and care from the people around them. When we take time to notice and acknowledge these moments, big and small, we strengthen the fabric of our community.

Gratitude is not only a response to good times; it’s a way to navigate challenges. It helps us focus on what unites us and on the progress we continue to make together. This month, as families gather, I hope we each take a moment to express appreciation—to our colleagues, neighbors, and loved ones—for the roles we play in one another’s lives. And then, I hope we carry that spirit forward into December, into the new year, and every day beyond.

To our staff, students, families, School Board, and community partners—thank you. Your commitment, compassion, and belief in what is possible make us proud to serve. Gratitude is not just something we talk about in November—it’s something we live together, all year long.
Wishing you a season filled with peace, purpose, and gratitude.
