Back to School: A Season of Excitement and Opportunity

In Cambridge-Isanti Schools, the back-to-school season is always filled with energy and anticipation. August signals more than the end of summer—it brings the promise of a new beginning for students, families, and staff alike. Everywhere you turn, there are signs of preparation and excitement as our community gets ready for another great year.

Already, student-athletes have returned to the fields, courts, and courses as fall sports camps get underway. Their commitment, teamwork, and school pride remind us that learning doesn’t happen only in classrooms—it also happens through experiences that build character and friendships to last a lifetime.

Inside our buildings, teachers are preparing their classrooms with the same enthusiasm and care. This week, we proudly welcomed new teachers to our district family, and next week, we will gather for Workshop Week to welcome back all staff. These days of learning, planning, and reconnecting are essential as we recommit ourselves to our mission: to educate, empower, and inspire every student, every day.

Alongside our teachers, student support staff are also preparing, ready to provide the encouragement and guidance that help every learner feel supported and capable of success. Their dedication ensures that all students begin the year with the tools they need to thrive.

Beyond the classroom, many others are also busy getting ready. Transportation staff are finalizing routes and buses so students can travel safely to and from school. Custodial teams are polishing floors, making repairs, and ensuring every building is welcoming. Administrative assistants are organizing schedules and responding to families, helping the “world go around” each day. Nutrition services staff are stocking kitchens and planning menus to provide healthy meals that fuel student learning. Each of these groups plays an essential role in creating the conditions for a strong start.

Our administrators are working diligently as well—finalizing safety procedures, aligning professional development, and making sure every detail is in place for a successful opening. Soon, we will gather as one district family for our annual all-staff kickoff. This event is more than a meeting—it is a celebration of our shared purpose and a chance to look ahead with optimism.

At the same time, it is also a season to honor our traditions. Cambridge-Isanti has a proud history, rooted in the values of hard work, perseverance, and community spirit. This fall, as we reintroduce the color red into our Bluejacket identity, we are reminded of our deep roots and the generations of students and families who have come before us. To celebrate both our history and our future, we are excited to soon launch a new video, “What is a Bluejacket?” This powerful piece captures the essence of who we are—grounded in tradition, strengthened by community support, and filled with the exciting potential of what lies ahead.

Families are part of this tradition too. From stocking up on supplies to reestablishing routines, parents and caregivers are preparing their children to step into a new year of growth. Students themselves are eagerly comparing schedules, reconnecting with friends, and wondering what new opportunities await them.

This is the true spirit of back-to-school: an entire community coming together with a common goal—supporting the success of every child. It is a season of shared purpose, fresh beginnings, and honoring the legacy that makes us who we are.

As superintendent, I am deeply grateful for the dedication of our staff, the resilience of our students, and the support of our families and community. Together, we are building more than strong schools—we are shaping a bright future for every student who walks through our doors.

Here’s to a year filled with learning, tradition, and success. GO BIG BLUE!
