The Bluejacket Way: CIHS Senior Recognized as National Merit Finalist

Each year, high-achieving students across the country take the PSAT. Some of the highest scorers earn recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Program. This nationwide program honors students for strong academic performance and potential for future success.

Students first qualify as Commended Scholars or Semifinalists based on their PSAT scores. Semifinalists then complete a detailed application process to advance to Finalist standing and compete for scholarships. Fewer than one percent of students nationwide earn Semifinalist status.

Approximately 15,000 students have been named Finalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. From this group, roughly 6,930 students—just under half of all Finalists—will be selected to receive a National Merit Scholarship. This places Finalists among the most academically accomplished students in the nation.

Cambridge-Isanti High School has a proud history in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Over the years, Bluejacket students have earned Commended Scholar, Semifinalist, and Finalist recognition, reflecting both their hard work and the strong academic foundation built in our schools.

This year, we are proud to celebrate senior Jackson Ryberg, who has been named a National Merit Finalist. Jackson’s achievement places him among the top students in the country. His dedication to learning, commitment to excellence, and perseverance represent the very best of Bluejacket pride.

As a Finalist, Jackson will be considered for several types of scholarships announced beginning in April. These include one-time $2,500 National Merit Scholarships, corporate-sponsored awards ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or renewable scholarships from $1,000 to $10,000 per year, and college-sponsored scholarships that may provide renewable stipends of $500 to $2,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study. Every Finalist in the state is considered for these opportunities.

We congratulate Jackson and his family on this outstanding accomplishment. His success reminds us that when students are supported, challenged, and inspired, they can achieve at the highest levels.
