Six Teachers Win Idea Grants From the Bluejacket Education Foundation
With its first annual Grant Awards, the Bluejacket Education Foundation awarded six teacher grants of $500 - $2,000 designed to:
- Increase opportunities and expand educational horizons for Cambridge-Isanti students, from the youngest learners to soon-to-be graduates, by funding supplemental and/or innovative learning experiences.
- Support programs, activities and experiences, both inside and outside the classroom, that support student learning, achievement, growth and well-being.
Bluejacket Education Foundation Grant Recipients
Jeremiah Semler - CIHS wood shop students will engineer and construct a cedar strip canoe. Students will master new skills and use determination and persistence to complete this community project.
Tracy Hare - Cambridge Middle School will create an interactive STEM cart with kits that provide opportunities for practicing critical thinking and perseverance skills and give students a glimpse into STEM careers.
Derrick Rink - The CIHS Science Department will foster a greater interest in chemistry through demonstrations including the annual "Mole Day" celebration & outreach to the district's 3rd grade classrooms, inspiring students to see the fun in science and their own potential interest in STEM.
Ryan O'Donovan - Cambridge and Isanti Middle Schools will expand students' outside winter learning opportunities through cross-country skiing for 6th-8th grade students.
Tricia Hennen - This grant will purchase two mobile grow carts and light fixtures that will allow Biology students at CIHS to grow plants to study cell function, organism structures, environmental impact, and genetics in the classroom all year long.
Jessica Miller - CIHS art students will be able to experiment with glaze application and surface design with the purchase of new kiln shelves. This project allows students to finish their ceramic pieces in ways that they couldn't previously achieve, along with learning how to load, unload, and take care of the kiln equipment.
Future Fest A HUGE Success
The Bluejacket Education Foundation held its inaugural Future Fest on April 21, exceeding expectations. They are raising funds for future teacher grants and an endowment.
Dozens of students volunteered to support the Bluejacket Education Foundation Future Fest. More than 200 people turned out for the event. Our culinary students volunteered in the kitchen, Link Crew members served the food, our Jazz Band performed, and students created art for the silent auction. Other student volunteers included Model UN, NHS, FCCLA, ProStart, tech crew, and Link Crew students. The students worked hard — and had fun! The energy in the room was inspiring with so many people there supporting our kids! Check out all the photos from the event (credit: JoJo's Photo Studio) and please thank the generous sponsors, founding donors, and volunteers!
Support the Foundation
The mission of the Bluejacket Education Foundation is to increase educational opportunities for Cambridge-Isanti students through ongoing grants from a continuously growing endowment. Through the generosity of our community and in partnership with the Initiative Foundation, they are building a permanent endowment fund that will benefit our students and community for generations to come. The endowment is thoughtfully invested to generate returns (dollars) that can then be invested in opportunities for Cambridge-Isanti students through financial grants. Through these investments, the Foundation is building an enduring legacy for our students and our entire community.
