Preparing Every Student for College, Career, and Life

At Cambridge-Isanti Schools, our strategic plan serves as both a guide and a promise to our community. Two of our End Result Statements, 1.3 and 1.4, focus on preparing students for life beyond graduation through career-connected learning. End Result Statement 1.3 calls for designating Cambridge-Isanti High School courses to C-I Career Pathways, while End Result Statement 1.4 commits us to developing a Career & College Readiness (CCR) program for students in grades 6–8. Together, these initiatives are shaping a stronger, more purposeful journey from middle school to high school and beyond.

At the high school level, the Career Pathways framework ensures that courses are not offered in isolation, but are connected to clearly defined clusters such as manufacturing, health sciences, information technology, and more. This alignment allows students to see how their choices today can lead to valuable credentials, dual-credit opportunities, and future careers. For example, through programs like Bluejacket AMP, students gain hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing, earn an OSHA 10 certification, and build relationships with local employers. With support from teachers, counselors, and community partners, students can now graduate with not only a diploma, but also the skills and certifications that make them workforce-ready. Equally important is the work happening in our middle schools. By starting career and college readiness in grades 6–8, we are helping students build self-awareness, explore a variety of careers, and begin developing the soft skills they will need in any workplace. Our CCR program introduces career exploration lessons during advisory and connects students with teachers and community partners who can help them imagine future possibilities. By the time students reach high school, they will already have a sense of their strengths and interests, making their pathway choices more intentional.

These two End Result Statements are closely connected. A student who begins exploring health care careers in seventh grade might then choose health science pathway courses in high school, leading to an internship and an industry-recognized credential by graduation. This continuity—from early exposure in middle school to advanced coursework and partnerships at the high school—ensures that every student can find a path that fits, and that they are prepared for college, career, or both.

Implementing these End Result Statements takes partnership across the district and community. Teachers, counselors, families, and local businesses are all playing a role in bringing the vision to life. As the programs grow, we will continue to share updates, highlight student success stories, and expand opportunities for hands-on learning. Together, we are building a system where every student can graduate confident in their next steps, prepared with real skills, and inspired to reach their full potential.
