Bluejacket Brief: Independent Review Confirms Strong Financial Stewardship

Accurate information matters, especially when it comes to public resources.

Recently, Moody’s Investors Service, an independent financial rating agency, published its annual issuer comment for Cambridge-Isanti Schools. The report assigned the district an Aa3 issuer rating with no outlook, which reflects Moody’s view of the district’s ability to meet its financial obligations.

For our community, the takeaway is simple: an independent financial rating agency conducted an in-depth district financial information and confirmed that Cambridge-Isanti Schools has healthy reserves and sound financial practices.

This matters to taxpayers. Just like a family or business, when a school district needs to borrow money for major projects or long-term needs, its financial strength and credit rating can affect borrowing costs. A strong financial position can help the district access more favorable borrowing terms. Over time, that can mean lower interest expenses, better value for taxpayers, and more public dollars available to support students, staff, schools, and the community.

It is also important to be clear about what this does and does not mean. A strong financial position does not mean the district has unlimited resources or that every need is fully funded. Like districts across Minnesota, Cambridge-Isanti Schools continues to face real pressures, including rising costs, staffing challenges, facility needs, and funding limitations.

What it does mean is that the district is managing resources responsibly and making thoughtful decisions that support students, staff, families, and taxpayers both now and in the future.

Every financial decision connects back to our mission to educate, empower, and inspire every student, every day. Cambridge-Isanti Schools remains committed to transparency, accountability, and thoughtful planning so public resources continue to support students, schools, taxpayers, and the broader community.

We are committed to transparency and helping our community access clear, accurate information. If you have questions about our financial practices or interest in any other information, please contact us at dist-communications@c-ischools.org and a member of our team will set up a time to meet with you.
