Bluejacket Brief: From Bluejacket Student to Bluejacket Leader

From Bluejacket student to Bluejacket principal, Scott Peterson’s journey has come full circle in the best possible way. After 37 years of serving Cambridge-Isanti Schools as a teacher, coach, and principal, Mr. Peterson will retire later this fall, leaving behind a legacy of relationships, leadership, and care that has impacted generations of Bluejackets.

As a Bluejacket graduate himself, Mr. Peterson has experienced the district from nearly every perspective: student, parent, teacher, and school leader. Along the way, the relationships he built became one of the most meaningful parts of his journey.

“When you are in a community nearly your entire life, you are able to build connections and turn them into true friendships,” Mr. Peterson shared. “It’s been special to teach students and later welcome so many of them back as parents.”

His story reflects something special about the Bluejacket community: many who grow up here continue to feel a strong connection to this place, returning as educators, parents, volunteers, leaders, and community partners.

Throughout his career, Mr. Peterson helped lead the district through moments of growth, challenge, and change. Whether navigating budget reductions, supporting students through major world events, or celebrating new opportunities for learners, he says Cambridge-Isanti Schools always stayed focused on students and families.

Mr. Peterson reflected on how the opportunities for students have expanded over the years, while the heart of the district has remained the same, with caring adults committed to helping every student succeed.

When asked what has been the most rewarding part of serving as a principal, Mr. Peterson's answer was simple: smiles. “Kids’ smiles are the best. When a student, staff member, or family member smiles, it usually means their experience is going well, and that is rewarding.”

As he prepares for retirement, Mr. Peterson hopes the Bluejacket community continues leading with compassion, encouragement, and care for students. “It has been a blessing to be a small part of their lives for so many years,” he shared.

Cambridge-Isanti Schools is proud to celebrate Principal Peterson’s remarkable career and is grateful for the lasting impact he has made on students, families, staff, and the entire Bluejacket community.
