Bluejacket Brief: Enrollment Trends and Financial Transparency

Accurate information matters. When questions arise about Cambridge-Isanti Schools, the most reliable source is the district’s publicly audited financial data. We remain committed to transparency, responsible stewardship, and clear communication with our community.

Each year, the district’s finances are reviewed by an independent auditor. The most recent audit, presented publicly to the School Board in January 2026 by LB Carlson, covers the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025 and resulted in a clean audit opinion, confirming that the district’s financial statements are accurate and fairly presented.

Enrollment trends provide important context. Across Minnesota, many school districts are experiencing declining enrollment due to demographic shifts and changing birth rates. During this same period, enrollment in Cambridge-Isanti Schools has increased 2.6% over the past 10 years, with typical year-to-year fluctuations rather than sharp declines. The district continues to serve nearly 5,400 students, spanning early learning, K–12 education, and post-secondary transition programming for young adults, and is actively expanding opportunities to meet the needs of all learners—through strong academic programming, career and technical education pathways, student support services, and community-based opportunities that continue to attract and retain families in our district.

Financial trends reflect intentional and responsible decision-making. Costs increase over time, and school districts are no exception. However, audited financial reports show that Cambridge-Isanti Schools’ operating expenses have grown more slowly than the average Minnesota school district and remain below the rate of inflation. While schools statewide are facing higher costs for special education, student mental health support, staffing, transportation, utilities, and required state and federal programs, the district has made careful budgeting decisions to manage these increases and protect classroom learning.

As a result of this disciplined approach, the district ended the year in a strong financial position, with a healthy fund balance that supports stability, allows for thoughtful planning, and helps the district respond to future challenges without sudden or disruptive cuts.

Cambridge-Isanti Schools is proud to be a district of choice, serving students from preschool through 12th grade while planning responsibly for the future. Clear, verified information helps families and community members make informed decisions, especially during enrollment season.
