Recognized Excellence in Positive Behavior and School Climate
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has recognized Cambridge-Isanti Schools as one of only five Minnesota school districts demonstrating exemplary work using Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS). District representatives were recognized by the Minnesota Commissioner of Education during a statewide PBIS Summer Institute in June.
In Cambridge-Isanti Schools, the Bluejacket Way provides a framework for expectations for positive behavior, anti-bullying, pro-social behavior and student wellbeing and mental health supports.
"At the heart of our expectations for behavior are the Bluejacket values of respect, responsibility, honesty, self-discipline, and compassion," Superintendent Nate Rudolph said. "These are deeply held values in our community and our schools. They are the foundation of the culture in our schools. Our Bluejackets and our community partners work tirelessly to model and teach these values for every student, every day."
Effort, fidelity of implementation and outcome data are used to show clear evidence of success in exemplary schools, specifically in reducing the number of behavior incidents, fewer student suspensions, increased levels of student engagement and positive school climate to produce more equitable outcomes.
PBIS is a data-driven framework that provides schools and districts with training and support to promote positive student behavior, especially for students facing challenges inside and outside of the classroom. The schools recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education are leaders in supporting positive behavior, improving school climate and increasing student achievement.
