Strategic Planning: Guiding Our Vision and Facility Needs

During summer and fall of 2022, 68 parents, staff and students came together to dream, discuss, draft and design a strategic plan for our future. Our Community Task Force for Strategic Planning represented a cross-section of our community — businesses, the medical center, service agencies, the county, our schools, our cities and townships. The Strategic Plan updated our mission, beliefs, and measurable objectives. Four teams worked to develop explicit action plans for for strategic priorities: 1) student academic growth and success, 2) positive personal relationships with families, 3) student and staff mental health and well-being, and 4) community partnerships to support growth in the district. The Strategic Plan was adopted by the School Board in December 2022. It aligns resources and focuses district priorities now and in the coming years.

4.1 in the Strategic Plan directs district leaders to create and maintain an innovative, comprehensive master plan in order to intentionally plan for future facilities and programming needs.

Comprehensive Facility Plan Foundation

In the Spring of 2024, community members, parents, staff, and teachers were surveyed to identify and provide input on classroom and building conditions. Out of the feedback gathered, four main areas for improvement were identified:

  • Addressing capacity (space) issues
  • Reimagining learning spaces
  • Addressing deferred maintenance
  • Improving athletics and activities spaces

The comprehensive facility plan will work to solve these challenges with the potential for little to no tax impact as we plan for the future of our district.

Building Solutions Through Community Collaboration

Our district has a strong history of forming task forces that bring together parents, community members, staff, teachers, and local leaders to tackle challenges and shape a shared vision for the future. As a public school district we are owned by our community and we deeply value collaboration and input from our community to direct our work and future. These groups reflect the diversity of our community—ensuring all voices are heard.

In 2021, we convened a task force that successfully addressed key issues, including school district finances, transportation challenges, and deferred maintenance (such as CPIS boilers), following a lost referendum and operational challenges. This effort stabilized our district and laid the foundation for our second task force that came together in 2022, which provided a vision for our future through a strategic plan that now serves as our roadmap.

Now in year two of this strategic plan, we are assembling another task force to advance the critical work outlined in 4.1 of the strategic plan.

Call for Task Force Members! Join the input team!

Our district’s facilities are a vital community asset, and we are seeking community feedback and direction to help develop our master facility plan in alignment with our strategic plan. To gather input, we are assembling a Facility Planning Task Force made up of community members, parents, staff, teachers, and local leaders. As always, we aim to build a diverse team that reflects all areas of our community. If interest exceeds capacity, we will select participants to ensure broad representation. We plan to identify Task Force members by the beginning of January.

The task force will meet five to seven times over the winter, with each meeting lasting at least two hours in the evenings.

If you are interested in joining this important initiative, please complete the interest application. Your insights and dedication can make a difference in shaping the future of our schools. Thank you in advance for your interest!
