Volunteer Application Process
To get started, you will need to complete the Volunteer Application and pass a background check.
The safety of our staff and students is of the utmost importance to us, and that is why we have our background check policy and procedure.
Upon successful completion of the volunteer application and background check, one of our Volunteer Coordinators will be in contact with you regarding opportunities available that match your interests, schools and availability. The Volunteer Coordinators regularly work with the teachers and staff at all of the schools to identify and fill their volunteer needs.

Volunteer with Adult Basic Education
Did you know we have a strong and growing Adult Basic Education program at Cambridge-Isanti Schools? We are always looking for people to volunteer with our adult learners in this rewarding environment.
Classroom volunteer: Work one-on-one with students on Reading or Math (we do have quite a few students who are low-level math—multiplication/division, decimals, etc. We would never expect a volunteer to work with a student on a subject that they felt was out of their comfort zone).
One-on-one tutoring: This could be with a native-English speaking student who has a low reading level and wants to become a better reader, or, with a non-native English speaker who wants to learn English. (We are seeing a slight increase in requests for ESL classes/tutors).
Free training is provided through the Minnesota Literacy Council if the volunteer wishes. (It is recommended, but not absolutely necessary to be a volunteer for us).

Volunteering FAQ
How can I volunteer?
Start by completing the online application. If you prefer a paper application please contact your school's volunteer coordinator. You will be notified by one of our school-based volunteer coordinators once your application has been processed. Background check information will also be provided at this time.
If I completed an application last year, do I need to complete another one?
Yes, a Volunteer Application needs to be completed every school year so we can update information and match current needs to each volunteer’s interests.
By completing the application, you are not committing to volunteering; rather, it starts a conversation with us about potential volunteer opportunities.
Do I have to complete an application for each school I want to volunteer at?
No, one application will cover all schools. The application gives you the opportunity to select all the schools you are interested in volunteering at.
If I am a current district employee do I need to complete an application?
Yes, we ask that all volunteers and chaperones complete a volunteer application.
Still have questions?
Contact Volunteer Services director Christina Thayer Anderson at canderson1@c-ischools.org or (763)689-6220.
